Where it came from
Osgir, the Reconstructor was released in 2021 as part of the Commander 2021 set, specifically anchoring the Lorehold Legacies deck. Designed as a legendary creature for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, Osgir was crafted to represent a master artificer from the Strixhaven University setting, specifically belonging to the Lorehold College. This institution focuses on archaeology and the preservation of history, which informed the character's ability to pull artifacts from the graveyard and reconstruct them into physical manifestations on the battlefield.
The visual design of Osgir was brought to life by artist Jason Rainville, who aimed to capture the essence of a scholarly yet powerful dwarf artificer. The character is depicted surrounded by the tools and remnants of ancient civilizations, emphasizing the deck's mechanical identity of recycling and maximizing value from discarded artifacts. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base for its unique synergy within white and red color identities, quickly becoming a staple for players who enjoy artifact-heavy strategies.
