Where it came from
Brass's Bounty was released in 2021 as part of the Prismari Performance deck within the Commander 2021 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to support the set's focus on the Prismari College of Strixhaven, a magical university where students blend elemental magic with artistic expression. Its creation reflects the game's shift toward rewarding decks that prioritize large, flashy spellcasting and the utilization of treasure tokens as a tactical resource.
The artwork for the card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the opulent and chaotic aesthetic of the Strixhaven setting. The design intent was to translate the narrative concept of Admiral Beckett Brass—a notorious pirate figure in Magic's lore—into a high-impact sorcery that visually and mechanically evokes the theme of buried treasure. Upon release, it was received as a functional, if situational, tool for decks seeking to capitalize on ramp strategies.
