Outrage Shaman

Outrage Shaman was released in 2008 as part of the Eventide expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set in the plane of Shadowmoor, the expansion focused on the themes of hybrid mana and the transition from a dark, gothic twilight into a shifting, dual-natured world. The card was designed to capitalize on the set's elemental and shamanic motifs, serving as a mechanical representation of the volatile, destructive magic associated with the red and black color identity.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, whose work is characterized by a high-fantasy aesthetic that emphasizes movement and visceral intensity. Ejsing chose to depict the shaman as a hunched, jagged figure surrounded by swirling, chaotic energy, perfectly capturing the card's function of dealing damage based on the number of other elemental creatures under the player's control. Upon release, it was regarded as a niche but flavorful addition to tribal elemental decks, fitting well into the set's broader mechanical emphasis on creature synergy.
