Where it came from
Overrun was originally introduced in the Tempest set in 1997, designed as a powerful green sorcery that serves as a game-ending finisher. By the time of its inclusion in the Tenth Edition core set in 2007, it had become a hallmark of green deck archetypes, valued for its ability to grant both a power boost and trample to a player's entire board of creatures simultaneously.
The Tenth Edition printing features artwork by Kev Walker, who has contributed to numerous Magic: The Gathering sets. Walker's illustration emphasizes the sheer momentum of a stampeding force, aligning with the card's function as a tide-turning play. Tenth Edition was notable for being the first core set to utilize the modern card frame with black borders, providing a refreshed aesthetic for this perennial staple.
