Pacifism

Pacifism was first printed in the Urza's Saga set, released in 1998 as the first installment of the Urza block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed during a time when Wizards of the Coast was expanding the game's mechanical depth, the card was designed as a white enchantment that effectively neutralizes an opponent's creature by preventing it from attacking or blocking. Its introduction provided white decks with a reliable, common-rarity removal option that focused on restraint rather than destruction, aligning with the color's thematic philosophy of peace and order.

The iconic illustration for this version of the card was created by artist Christopher Rush. Known for his contributions to the game's earliest sets, Rush depicted a serene, ethereal figure restraining a weaponized construct, perfectly encapsulating the card's pacifist intent.
