Perish

Perish was first introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the 1997 Tempest expansion, later appearing in the Classic Sixth Edition core set. Mechanically designed to provide players with a powerful tool against green creature-heavy decks, the card acts as a mass-removal spell that specifically destroys all green creatures. Its inclusion in the Sixth Edition helped consolidate the game's rules and provided a bridge for newer players to access essential sideboard utility that had been established in earlier sets.

The artwork for Perish was created by illustrator Kev Walker, whose gritty and dark aesthetic was a hallmark of late 1990s Magic cards. Walker’s depiction captures the theme of sudden, overwhelming destruction through sharp lines and a foreboding atmosphere. The design was well-received by the competitive community, as it became a staple in tournament sideboards for years, representing a classic example of color-hoser design that defined the tactical landscape of the game's middle era.
