Phyrexian Ingester

The Phyrexian Ingester was originally introduced in the Scars of Mirrodin expansion as a centerpiece of the blue-aligned Phyrexian forces. This card represents the faction's biomechanical adaptation, designed to illustrate the assimilation of organic life into the machine orthodoxy. In the context of the Commander Masters reprint, the art and frame were updated to reflect the high-fantasy prestige format of the set, maintaining the creature's original mechanical identity as an exiling engine that grows in strength by consuming its opponents' assets.

The creature's design is heavily influenced by the body-horror aesthetic of the Phyrexians, characterized by fluid, nightmare-like transformation and assimilation. The illustration for this iteration emphasizes the grotesque synthesis of steel and flesh, a common hallmark of the Phyrexian design language established by the artists during the New Phyrexia block. Players have historically valued the card for its dual utility as both targeted creature removal and a scaling threat, securing its place as a staple in control and graveyard-focused Commander decks.
