Provenance

Where it came from

Plague Engineer was originally released in the 2019 set Modern Horizons, designed to provide a targeted answer to creature-heavy decks in the Magic: The Gathering competitive ecosystem. As a high-impact black creature capable of hosing specific tribes, it quickly became a staple in eternal formats like Legacy and Modern for its ability to shift the tempo of a game instantly.

The Secret Lair Drop version, numbered 1215, features distinct, stylized illustrative work that deviates from the original card's standard aesthetic. This specific print was released as part of a curated limited-run collection, aimed at collectors who appreciate alternative art styles and thematic, high-contrast visual design within the broader landscape of Magic's expanded card expansions.
