Where it came from
Plargg and Nassari was introduced in the 2021 Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set, a supplemental release for Magic: The Gathering tied to the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion. The card represents a pair of Professors from the Prismari college, which focuses on the intersection of elemental magic and artistic expression. Designed as a legendary creature, it embodies the chaotic and creative essence of its house, featuring mechanics that allow players to cast spells from the tops of their libraries during their upkeep.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk. Known for his atmospheric and dynamic style within the game, Kieryluk captured the collaborative yet contrasting nature of the duo, with Plargg providing the rigid structure and Nassari providing the explosive magical force. The card was well-received within the Commander format for its unpredictable, high-reward gameplay style, fitting perfectly into the thematic identity of the Prismari mages.
