Where it came from
Poppet Stitcher // Poppet Factory was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card draws heavily from the gothic horror themes of the Innistrad setting, specifically referencing the mad science of stitchers who construct artificial life from repurposed corpses. Designed to function as a synergy-focused engine, the card rewards players for casting non-creature spells by creating token creatures, reflecting the flavor of a laboratory coming to life.
The artwork for this double-faced card was created by illustrator Randy Vargas. Vargas aimed to capture the unsettling, obsessive atmosphere of a stitcher's workshop, emphasizing the grotesque yet methodical nature of the craft. Upon release, the card gained significant attention in competitive formats for its ability to generate an overwhelming board presence in dedicated deck builds, balancing its thematic commitment to the set's graveyard-centric gameplay with high-impact utility.
