What it does

Whenever a player casts a spell from their hand, that player exiles it, then exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a card that shares a card type with it. That player may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Then they put all cards exiled with this enchantment on the bottom of their library in a random order.

Provenance

Where it came from

Possibility Storm was released in 2013 as part of the Dragon's Maze expansion for Magic: The Gathering, the final set in the Return to Ravnica block. Mechanically, the card was designed to embody the chaotic and unstable nature of the Dragon's Maze, forcing players to exile spells and cast replacements from their libraries, effectively disrupting established strategies and introducing a high degree of unpredictability to the game state.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose artwork captures the swirling, ethereal turbulence of the Izzet League's experiments. Voss utilized vibrant colors and distorted perspectives to visualize the magical volatility described in the card's rules text. Upon its release, it became a popular inclusion in casual Commander decks due to its ability to fundamentally alter the flow of a match, often serving as a centerpiece for players who enjoy high-variance gameplay.
