Professor of Symbology // Professor of Symbology

Professor of Symbology originates from the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. The set is themed around a magical university, and this card serves as a representative of the Prismari college, which emphasizes the intersection of magic and artistic expression. It was designed to function as both a gameplay piece and a collectible art object, appearing in the Strixhaven Art Series line as a high-quality print featuring the full-card illustration without text overlays.

The artwork for this piece was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work is well-known within the fantasy gaming community for its focus on light, shadow, and intricate character design. By removing the card mechanics and leaving only the illustration, the Art Series cards shift the focus entirely to the visual storytelling of the Strixhaven setting. The design was intended to offer players and collectors a focused appreciation of the craftsmanship behind the game's expansive lore and aesthetic world-building.
