Promise of Power

Promise of Power was originally printed in the 2004 Magic: The Gathering expansion Champions of Kamigawa. As a black sorcery featuring the entwine mechanic, it was designed to offer players a high-risk, high-reward choice between drawing cards, creating a large demon token, or potentially both if the mana cost is met. The card was illustrated by Adam Rex, who focused on capturing the dark, intimidating essence of Kamigawa’s spirit world through the depiction of a looming, otherworldly entity.

The version from 'The List' is a modern curation by Wizards of the Coast, designed to reintegrate older, thematic cards into current booster packs. This initiative was launched to introduce newer players to the rich history of the game's mechanics and lore. While the mechanical function remains identical to the original print, its inclusion in 'The List' signifies its status as a staple for black-mana decks, prized by players for its versatile board presence and card advantage capabilities.
