Prophetic Ravings was originally printed in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion Eldritch Moon. As a red enchantment that grants haste and discards cards to draw, it reflects the set’s thematic focus on the descent into madness caused by the Eldrazi titan Emrakul. The card was designed to encourage aggressive, high-risk playstyles common in red deck archetypes, emphasizing the chaotic and unstable nature of the set's narrative conflict.

The card was later included in 'The List', a rotating selection of reprints from throughout the game's history that can be found in modern-day Set Boosters. The original illustration, provided by artist Magali Villeneuve, captures the frantic energy of the Innistrad plane.
