Where it came from
Purphoros's Intervention is a rare promo variant from the Theros Beyond Death expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in January 2020. The card depicts the god of the forge within the thematic framework of Theros, a plane deeply inspired by Greek mythology. This specific version features alternate art intended to showcase the mythic scale and elemental nature of the deity, reflecting the set's focus on the underworld and the pantheon of gods vying for power.
The artwork for this promo was crafted to emphasize the intense, fiery aesthetic associated with Purphoros. It was distributed primarily through promotional events and as a 'Buy-a-Box' or bundle-related inclusion to encourage community engagement during the set's release window. While the standard version of the card served as a staple for red-aligned decks in the Standard format, this promo edition was sought after by collectors for its unique visual treatment and the prestige of the extended-art card frame.
