Where it came from
Pursue the Past is a card from the Secrets of Strixhaven Art Series, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021 to coincide with the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These art cards were designed as promotional collectibles, featuring full-bleed illustrations from the main set without the standard game frames or text, allowing the artwork to serve as the primary focus of the piece.
The illustration for this specific entry was created by artist Miranda Meeks, who sought to capture the ethereal, scholarly atmosphere of the Strixhaven campus. Known for her focus on narrative and lighting, Meeks utilized a palette that emphasizes the magical research theme inherent to the set. The card was well-received by collectors who appreciate the high-fidelity art prints, which provide a closer look at the intricate character designs and world-building developed by the Magic creative team.
