Subterranean Tremors // Subterranean Tremors

Subterranean Tremors is part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages Art Series, a specialized subset released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. The series was designed to showcase the intricate illustrations from the Magic: The Gathering expansion set, allowing collectors to appreciate the artwork without the functional game text found on standard trading cards. These cards were distributed primarily through Set Boosters as a collectible insert, catering to the growing community of art enthusiasts within the hobby.

The illustration for Subterranean Tremors was rendered by artist Titus Lunter. Known for his atmospheric and cinematic fantasy style, Lunter aimed to capture the visceral scale and destructive elemental energy of the spell. By focusing on the interplay between deep subterranean shadows and vibrant, glowing earth magic, the design effectively communicates the card's theme of tectonic upheaval. Upon release, the piece was well-received by fans for its bold composition and its departure from traditional creature-focused card art.
