Pyre Hound

Pyre Hound was originally featured in the 2016 expansion Shadows over Innistrad and was later reprinted as card number 145 in the 2018 Masters 25 set. This set was designed to commemorate the twenty-five-year history of Magic: The Gathering, gathering iconic or representative cards from the game's expansive catalog into a single draftable experience. By including the hound, the curators highlighted the creature's thematic role as a representative of the red color's emphasis on spell-casting synergy.

The card features artwork by Mathias Kollros, who depicts the creature as a spectral, flame-wreathed hound constructed from the magical remnants of the Innistrad plane. In terms of gameplay design, the creature was crafted to reward players for playing instant and sorcery spells, embodying the aggressive 'spells-matter' archetype prevalent in modern Magic design. Upon its inclusion in Masters 25, the card was received as a functional, mid-tier utility creature that provided players with a reliable, scaling threat for their limited decks.
