Akroma, Angel of Wrath

Akroma, Angel of Wrath was originally introduced in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering set Legions. Created as the physical manifestation of Ixidor's grief and obsession, the character serves as a central figure in the Onslaught block's storyline. Mechanically, the card was designed to be an overwhelming threat, featuring an unprecedented density of keywords including flying, first strike, trample, haste, and protection from red and black, which set a new standard for high-cost creature power levels at the time.

The Masters 25 version, released in 2018, features updated artwork by Chase Stone, who replaced the original illustrator, Ron Spencer. This reprint was curated for the set's silver anniversary, intended to celebrate iconic cards from the game's history. The reimagined art shifts toward a more painterly, modern aesthetic while maintaining the character's formidable stature and angelic motifs, receiving generally positive recognition for updating a classic design for a new generation of players.
