Where it came from
The Raccoon token from the Magic: The Gathering Foundations set was released in late 2024 to provide a standardized, high-quality physical representation for creature tokens created by various cards within the game. As Foundations was designed to serve as a bedrock entry point for new players and a nostalgic return to core gameplay principles, the token needed to be visually accessible while adhering to the established aesthetic language of the Magic multiverse.
The artwork features a whimsical, detailed depiction of a raccoon, designed to fit seamlessly into the broader token landscape of the set. Illustrators for this collection were tasked with emphasizing creature clarity and charm, ensuring that players could easily identify the token's presence on the battlefield during complex board states. The design was received positively for its clean, functional composition and its role in streamlining the physical administration of the game.
