Provenance

Where it came from

Rageblood Shaman was first released in the 2014 expansion Born of the Gods, drawing inspiration from the set's Greek mythology-inspired plane, Theros. It was later reprinted in the 2020 Jumpstart set as card number 357, featuring its original artwork. The card was designed to support the Minotaur creature type, a tribal archetype that served as a thematic cornerstone for red and black decks during the Theros block.

The card was illustrated by the artist Chase Stone, who rendered the Shaman with a visceral, aggressive aesthetic consistent with the savage nature of Therosian Minotaurs. Upon its debut, the card was received as a functional 'lord' effect, providing a necessary buff to Minotaur-focused strategies in both Limited and casual Constructed formats. Its inclusion in Jumpstart aimed to provide players with a cohesive, ready-to-play tribal experience that highlighted the aggressive playstyle of red-aligned decks.
