Rakdos Headliner

Rakdos Headliner was released as part of the Modern Horizons 2 expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed as a direct-to-modern release, intended to introduce new cards and reprint classic favorites specifically for the Modern competitive format. The card draws heavily from the Rakdos Cult, a chaotic and performance-obsessed guild from the plane of Ravnica, which is known for its blend of dark humor, pyrotechnics, and hedonistic violence.

The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who chose to emphasize the theatrical and aggressive nature of the Rakdos aesthetic. The visual design depicts a performer mid-act, utilizing the guild's signature red and black color palette to convey a sense of volatile energy. Upon its release, the card was noted for its unique mechanics, which reward players for aggressive play styles by allowing the creature to grow in power while simultaneously demanding a resource cost, fitting firmly into the tradition of 'suicide black' and aggressive red strategies within the game.
