Where it came from
Rassilon, the War President, is a card featured in the Doctor Who set for the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond expansion. Released in 2023, this set was designed to integrate the rich history of the long-running British science fiction series into the game's mechanics, with the card specifically depicting the formidable Time Lord leader as he appeared during the Time War narrative arc.
The card's design and illustration were developed to capture Rassilon's autocratic and commanding presence, drawing heavily from the character's modernized aesthetic in the series. The art direction emphasizes the weight of his office, aiming to reflect his role as both a mythic founder of Time Lord society and a desperate, ruthless combatant, which resonated with fans who appreciated the faithful translation of show lore into a tabletop format.
