Where it came from
Rassilon, the War President, card 434, was released as part of the Doctor Who trading card series, which draws heavily from the long-running BBC science fiction television program. The character of Rassilon serves as a foundational figure in the show’s lore, established as the architect of Gallifreyan society and Time Lord technology. This specific card captures the incarnation introduced during the programme's modern revival, emphasizing his formidable and authoritative presence within the high-stakes narrative of the Time War.
The visual design of this card leans into the regal yet militant aesthetic established for the character in the series. Illustrators and production designers for the card set aimed to reflect the distinctively ornate, high-collar robes and metallic headpiece that define this iteration of Rassilon. The card serves as a thematic tribute to the character's complex role as a complex anti-hero, balancing his status as a legendary founder against his descent into cold, tactical ruthlessness during the series' most desperate conflicts.
