Rat

The Rat token, numbered 6, is part of a series of promotional cardboard tokens released in conjunction with the original 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. These items were often found as inserts or premiums within licensed merchandise and food packaging during the height of the franchise's late-1980s popularity, designed to capitalize on the show's sudden global cultural dominance among children.

The design draws directly from the aesthetic of the early animated show, utilizing bold, simplified character art characteristic of late-1980s tie-in materials. While the illustrative credits for such promotional sets were rarely attributed to individual artists, the tokens were intended to be functional game pieces for simple tabletop play. They remain representative of the accessible, mass-market merchandising strategies employed by Mirage Studios and its licensing partners during the late 20th century.
