Provenance

Where it came from

Razor Boomerang was released in 2010 as part of the Worldwake expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set in the plane of Zendikar, Worldwake focused on themes of adventure, land-based mechanics, and the awakening of the destructive Eldrazi. The card was designed as a colorless artifact equipment, fitting the set's emphasis on versatile tools that could be utilized by any deck, regardless of color identity.

The card was illustrated by Mike Dringenberg, a veteran artist known for his work on the Sandman series. The design depicts a metallic, bladed implement returning to its thrower, emphasizing the card's unique mechanical ability to return to the owner's hand after use. While it is remembered by players for its unconventional mana cost and low competitive utility, it remains a notable example of the experimental artifact designs featured during the Zendikar block.
