Provenance

Where it came from

Razorgrass Screen was released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the final set in the Mirrodin block, it introduced the Scry mechanic and further explored the metallic, artifact-heavy plane of Mirrodin. The card was designed as a defensive utility piece, reflecting the harsh, resource-starved environment of the setting where even the flora had evolved into razor-sharp, jagged surfaces.

The artwork was provided by fantasy illustrator Martina Pilcerova, who created a stark, minimalist visual to represent the card's nature as an impassable barrier. The design focuses on the lethal, crystalline blades of the landscape, aligning with the block's industrial aesthetic. While it did not become a staple in competitive formats, it remains a recognized example of the thematic world-building that defined the Mirrodin era.
