Where it came from
Ready // Willing was released in 2013 as part of the Dragon's Maze expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a split card, it represents the mechanical identity of the Selesnya Conclave and the Orzhov Syndicate, two of the ten guilds featured in the Ravnica block. The card was designed to facilitate board-wide interactions, allowing players to either bolster their creature count or grant their army deathtouch and lifelink to swing the momentum of a game.
The artwork was created by illustrator Zoltan Boros, who captured the dual nature of the card by visually contrasting the communal, green-aligned harmony of Selesnya with the darker, white-and-black aesthetic of the Orzhov. Upon its release, it was noted for its tactical versatility in limited formats, particularly for its ability to turn a stalemate into an overwhelming advantage. It remains a notable example of the hybrid mechanics that defined the second cycle of the Ravnica setting.
