Rebbec, Architect of Ascension

Rebbec, Architect of Ascension was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Commander Legends, a set specifically designed for the multiplayer Commander format. The card represents a legendary figure from the lore of the plane of Mirrodin, where she served as a key architect during the construction of the Argentum, the world that would later be corrupted into the metallic plane of New Phyrexia. Her inclusion in the set serves as a narrative bridge to the history of the Mirrodin cycle, highlighting the craftsmanship and ingenuity of the ancient inhabitants.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose soft, ethereal aesthetic emphasizes Rebbec’s role as a visionary builder. The design team focused on her affinity for artifacts, mechanical structures, and protection, crafting a game mechanic that allows her to shield artifacts from harm. Upon release, Rebbec was well-received by players for her unique ability to provide protection to board states, making her a staple commander for players interested in synergy-heavy artifact decks that emphasize preservation over aggressive combat.
