Where it came from
Regisaur Alpha was released as part of the Ixalan set in 2017, specifically appearing as a promotional card. It reflects the set's thematic focus on the plane of Ixalan, a world defined by exploration, hidden civilizations, and dinosaurs. The card was designed to be a centerpiece for green-red aggressive decks, rewarding players for utilizing the creature-heavy tribal synergies that define the block's gameplay mechanics.
The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who rendered the dinosaur with a sense of scale and ferocity intended to capture the untamed essence of the Ixalan jungle. As a promo card, it was distributed through competitive event channels to encourage player engagement with the new set. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its efficiency in providing both an immediate board presence and a buff to other dinosaurs in play, making it a staple of the dinosaur tribal archetype.
