Where it came from
The Resistance Is Futile card is a central piece from the Star Trek Customizable Card Game, released by Decipher, Inc. in the mid-1990s. It was designed to capture the overwhelming mechanical dread associated with the Borg, a primary antagonist in The Next Generation, serving as a tactical representation of their relentless assimilation process during gameplay.
The art and thematic design were developed to immerse players in the tension of the Star Trek universe, emphasizing the futility of resistance against the Borg Collective. The card became a staple of early meta-strategies, widely recognized by enthusiasts for its iconic flavor text and its role in defining the power level of Borg-themed decks during the game's peak popularity.
