Where it came from
Resistance Reunited was released as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One expansion for Magic: The Gathering in February 2023. The card depicts a pivotal moment in the set's narrative, capturing the coalescing of various rebel factions on the plane of Mirrodin as they make a desperate stand against the encroaching corruption of the Phyrexians. It serves as a mechanical and thematic representation of the plane's struggle for survival, emphasizing themes of solidarity and resilience in the face of inevitable biological and psychological invasion.
The card’s art was created by illustrator Antonio José Manzanedo, who was tasked with visualizing the tactical coordination of disparate groups during the conflict. The design aesthetic reflects the high-fantasy, industrial-horror style characteristic of New Phyrexia, utilizing a color palette and composition that highlights the unity of the resistance against the cold, metallic backdrop of the Phyrexian landscape. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional tool for white-aligned decks, noted by players for its thematic resonance with the set's broader story arc.
