Restless Vents

Restless Vents was released in late 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, a Magic: The Gathering expansion centered on a subterranean, prehistoric-inspired world. As a 'man-land'—a land card that can transform into a creature—it represents the cycle of restless, volatile environments found within the set's central cavern system. The card design was intended to provide functional utility for Red-Black color combinations, offering players a recurring threat that remains relevant in the late game.

The artwork was illustrated by Dominik Mayer, whose distinct, angular style emphasizes the harsh, jagged aesthetics of the plane's volcanic regions. The design focuses on the chaotic energy of the environment, conveying a sense of shifting earth and subterranean heat. Upon its release, the card was received as a staple utility piece for competitive formats like Standard and Pioneer, praised for its ability to balance mana production with aggressive combat capabilities.
