Staggering Size

Staggering Size was released in late 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to support the set's central themes of exploration, subterranean discovery, and the emergence of massive prehistoric creatures within the hollowed-out interior of the plane of Ixalan. It serves as a functional combat trick, reflecting the high-stakes, creature-focused environment that defined the limited play experience of this set.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan, whose work often emphasizes dynamic movement and natural grandeur. Setiawan aimed to capture the visceral sense of scale inherent to the setting, depicting the sudden and overwhelming growth of a creature amidst the lush, cavernous landscape. Upon release, the card was received as a standard but effective utility spell, appreciated by players for its ability to swing board states during the set's draft and sealed tournament formats.
