Where it came from
Reverberate was first introduced in the Magic 2011 core set and later reprinted in Magic 2013, appearing as card number 145. Mechanically, it occupies a significant space in the color pie for red, which typically relies on direct damage rather than spell manipulation. By allowing a player to copy any instant or sorcery spell, it provides red decks with a degree of versatility and interaction usually reserved for blue, reflecting a design shift intended to make mono-red strategies more unpredictable.
The artwork for the Magic 2013 printing was executed by illustrator Howard Lyon. Lyon focused on capturing the kinetic, chaotic essence of magical amplification, using swirling energy currents to visualize the concept of echo and duplication. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid utility piece for Commander and casual formats, valued by players for its ability to turn an opponent's high-impact spell against them or simply double the effectiveness of one's own tactical maneuvers.
