Where it came from
Rona, Sheoldred's Faithful was introduced as part of the Multiverse Legends subset in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering expansion, March of the Machine. This specific iteration features the 'halo' foil treatment unique to the set, highlighting a new artistic interpretation of a character originally established in the Dominaria United set. The design choice for the Multiverse Legends cards was to present iconic figures from across the game's lore in a stylized, frame-breaking aesthetic that honors their role in the Phyrexian invasion storyline.
The artwork for this particular card was produced by Magali Villeneuve, a highly regarded illustrator known for her atmospheric and character-driven work within the Magic: The Gathering universe. Villeneuve’s depiction of Rona focuses on the character's descent into servitude under the Praetor Sheoldred, emphasizing the unsettling blend of human vulnerability and Phyrexian corruption. The card was well received by the player base for its visual flair and its role as a high-utility creature within the mechanics of the game's commander and constructed formats.
