Where it came from
Rooftop Bypass was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond set featuring the Assassin's Creed franchise in 2024. The card was designed to mechanically represent the iconic parkour and navigation mechanics central to the video game series, allowing creatures to bypass traditional defenses in a manner reminiscent of an assassin navigating the city skyline.
The artwork reflects the gritty, historical aesthetic associated with the game's depiction of Renaissance or colonial architecture, focusing on the agility and verticality inherent to the protagonists. It was created to provide thematic depth for fans of the franchise, serving as a functional utility card that integrates the stealth-based gameplay of the source material into the standard card game environment.
