Rooftop Assassin

Rooftop Assassin is a common-rarity creature card featured in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The set explores a Western-themed plane, reimagining the game's high-fantasy multiverse through the lens of outlaws, heists, and frontier justice. The card serves as a thematic bridge between the game's mechanical focus on 'crimes'—a key keyword in this set involving targeting opponents, their permanents, or their graveyards—and the stealthy, tactical archetype often associated with rogue-aligned characters in the game.

The card’s visual design was executed by artist Evyn Fong, who utilized a stark, noir-inspired aesthetic to emphasize the character's role as a silent predator overlooking the rugged streets of the set’s titular setting. By highlighting the interplay of shadow and rooftop architecture, the illustration reinforces the flavor of a set defined by lawlessness and high-stakes encounters. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, illustrative example of the set's broader mechanical identity, prioritizing narrative cohesion and strategic utility within the limited card pool.
