Provenance

Where it came from

Ruins of Trokair was originally released in the 1994 Fallen Empires expansion, later being reprinted as an uncommon land in the 1999 Classic Sixth Edition set. The card belongs to a cycle of 'depletion lands' designed to offer colored mana at the cost of being sacrificed after two uses, a mechanic intended to balance resource efficiency against long-term board presence during the early years of Magic: The Gathering.

The artwork for this version was provided by Liz Danforth, a veteran fantasy illustrator known for her significant contributions to the game's early visual identity. Her depiction of the ruins evokes a somber, archeological tone consistent with the game's gothic fantasy aesthetic of the era. Within the Sixth Edition release, the card serves as a point of continuity for players familiar with the game's burgeoning history and evolving card frames.
