Dwarven Ruins

Dwarven Ruins first appeared as a rare land in the Fallen Empires expansion of 1994, a set designed to explore the flavor of subterranean conflict and tribal warfare within the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. The card was later reprinted in the Classic Sixth Edition core set in 1999, which served as a major rules overhaul for the game. By moving the card to an uncommon rarity in this edition, Wizards of the Coast allowed a wider range of players to access the land's utility in generating temporary mana bursts for red-aligned decks.

The artwork for this version was provided by Liz Danforth, a prolific illustrator known for her early contributions to the game's iconic aesthetic.
