What it does
When this creature dies, create a 4/4 red Bird creature token with flying at the beginning of the next end step.
Called "stonefeathers" by many lowlanders, rukhs are thought to descend from a phoenix that sacrificed its flame for a body of stone.

Where it came from
The Rukh Egg first appeared in the Arabian Nights expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield to evoke the mythological lore of the roc. It was intended as a tactical delay card, rewarding players for the destruction of their own permanent. The card gained significant notoriety for its evocative original artwork by Christopher Rush, which depicted the creature's shell cracking against a desert backdrop.
The Eighth Edition printing, released in 2003, marked a significant aesthetic shift for the card as part of the game's shift to the modern card frame. Featuring new digital-style illustration by Greg Staples, this version was designed to align with the standardized visual identity of the Core Set. While it moved away from the rustic aesthetic of the early nineties, the Eighth Edition printing remains a functional staple for players interested in the evolution of Magic's visual language during its transition to the modern era.
