Savage Lands

Savage Lands is a land card originally introduced in the Shards of Alara expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2008. Designed to support the Jund shard, a faction defined by its predatory nature and focus on red, black, and green mana, the card was crafted to provide players with a versatile resource in multi-colored decks. Its mechanical intent was to facilitate the transition between these three distinct colors, reflecting the rugged and dangerous environment of the Jund plane.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Matt Cavotta, who sought to capture the visceral, untamed essence of a landscape teeming with elemental danger. The illustration emphasizes deep, earthy tones and aggressive topography, which aligns with the aggressive gameplay strategies associated with Jund during that era.
