What it does

This land enters tapped.

tap: Add black mana, red mana, or green mana.

Jund is a world as cruel as those who call it home. Their brutal struggles scar the land even as it carves them in its image, a vicious circle spiraling out of control.

Provenance

Where it came from

Savage Lands was originally released in the Shards of Alara set in 2008, designed as a tri-colored land to support the aggressive Grixis-opposing shard of Jund. Its inclusion in the Commander 2016 preconstructed decks served as a functional reprint, providing players with necessary mana fixing for multicolor decks in the popular Commander format. The card represents the rugged, volcanic geography of Jund, a plane defined by survival of the fittest and constant primordial conflict.

The artwork was created by Vance Kovacs, a frequent contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise known for his moody, painterly landscapes. Kovacs focused on conveying the harsh, jagged essence of the terrain, utilizing high-contrast lighting to emphasize the volatile nature of the environment. The design was received by the community as a staple utility piece for casual play, valued for its ability to provide access to red, green, and black mana simultaneously.
