Provenance

Where it came from

Scion of the Wild was originally released in the 2006 Ravnica: City of Guilds set, representing the Selesnya Conclave’s connection to nature. The card was designed to scale in power based on the number of creatures a player controls, a mechanical reflection of the guild's swarm-based, community-focused philosophy in the game's lore.

The 2015 Modern Masters version features updated card frame technology and serves as a reprint intended to support the draft environment of the set. The illustration by Greg Staples maintains the organic, aggressive aesthetic of the original, depicting a creature manifesting from the forest floor, which was well-received by players for reinforcing the card's thematic identity as an embodiment of the wild.
