Provenance

Where it came from

Scytheclaw originally debuted in the Commander 2015 set, emerging as a piece of equipment designed to capture the ruthless, biomechanical aesthetic of the Phyrexian faction. Mechanically, the card was built to pressure high-life-total opponents in multiplayer formats by reducing their health significantly upon combat damage, reflecting the brutal efficiency characteristic of the Phyrexians' philosophy of compleation.

The version from Commander Masters, featuring collector number 408, serves as a high-fidelity reprint that maintains the menacing, dark-hued artistic direction of the original. By utilizing the modern frame treatments established for the Commander Masters set, this release sought to provide players with a polished, tournament-legal iteration of an equipment staple that has remained a popular choice for aggressive strategies within the Commander format since its introduction.
