Sea Gate Oracle

Sea Gate Oracle was released in 2010 as part of the Rise of the Eldrazi set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set introduced the Eldrazi, gargantuan and reality-warping entities, into the game's lore. The card depicts a member of the Merfolk race serving as a sentry at the Sea Gate, a fortification designed to protect the Zendikar plane from the encroaching threat of the Eldrazi. Its mechanics, which allow a player to look at the top two cards of their library and draw one, reflect its role as an information gatherer and scout in a high-stakes conflict.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a distinct style to capture the mystical nature of the Merfolk amidst the desperate atmosphere of the Zendikar conflict. The design focuses on the creature's connection to water and intellect, emphasizing the oracle’s duty to foresee danger. Upon release, the card gained significant favor within the competitive community due to its efficiency as a utility creature, eventually becoming a staple in various formats, particularly the Pauper format, where it remains a respected card for card advantage and board presence.
