Where it came from
Season of Gathering is a green sorcery card released in 2024 as part of the Bloomburrow expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card draws heavily on the set’s central theme of anthropomorphic woodland creatures living in a perilous, high-fantasy version of nature. Designed to reflect the restorative and communal aspects of the season, the mechanics focus on card advantage and creature strengthening, grounding the gameplay in the set’s narrative of survival and harvest.
The artwork for this promo version was created by artist Eli Minaya, who is known for a painterly, atmospheric style that aligns with Bloomburrow’s whimsical yet grounded aesthetic. By highlighting the vibrant, autumnal textures of the setting, the illustration aims to evoke the warmth and urgency of the gathering season. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and its utility in both casual and competitive formats that favor creature-heavy strategies.
