Where it came from
Season of Growth was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. This set was designed to serve as a bridge for new players while offering strategic depth for veterans, focusing on accessibility and core mechanical themes. The card serves as a green enchantment that rewards players for creature-based strategies, specifically highlighting the game's focus on creature synergy and card advantage within the green color identity.
The artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent figure in the fantasy art community whose work has defined the visual language of modern Magic. Her design captures a sense of botanical wonder, emphasizing the growth theme through vibrant, organic motifs that align with the card's function of scrying and drawing cards. Upon release, it was well-regarded among players for its efficiency in decks focused on creature spells, finding a stable place in various competitive and casual formats.
