Where it came from
Season of the Burrow is a mythic rare enchantment featured in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering set, Bloomburrow. The set is notable for its departure from traditional high-fantasy tropes, focusing instead on a whimsical, pastoral plane inhabited entirely by anthropomorphic animals. This card represents a core mechanical theme of the set, emphasizing the 'season' cycle that allows players to choose multiple effects from a modular list, reflecting the ebb and flow of the forest's life cycles.
The card was illustrated by the artist Ilse Gort, who sought to capture the cozy and rustic aesthetic central to the Bloomburrow world-building. Her design focuses on the domestic life of the burrowed creatures, utilizing a warm color palette and soft textures that evoke a sense of storybook comfort. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its versatility in gameplay and its successful embodiment of the set’s distinct, woodland-inspired art direction.
