Where it came from
Seer's Sundial was originally released in the Worldwake expansion in 2010 before being reprinted in the Commander 2013 product line. It was designed as an artifact that rewards players for playing lands, a recurring theme in green-aligned or utility-focused card design. The card functions as a mana sink, allowing players to pay additional resources to maintain card advantage during the mid-to-late stages of a game.
The illustration for the Seer's Sundial was created by the artist Jung Park. Tasked with depicting a mystical device capable of foresight, Park utilized a stark, celestial aesthetic that emphasizes the passage of time and cosmic observation. Within the Commander format, the card is frequently valued for its utility in decks that lack direct access to card draw, serving as a reliable engine for long-form, multiplayer matches.
